I’m excited to share with you my first live handpan album, which was captured during my recent No Enemy Within concert at the Queensland Conservatorium. It’s the first time I’ve posted a collection of my original music online and I’m so pleased with how it’s turned out!
A huge thank you to Steve Thornely for the amount of hours & studio time you’ve put into mixing, mastering and really bringing this music to life, to Anna Whitaker & the MuTech team for recording, the technical crew for all of your help setting up for the concert, and to the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University for allowing me to present this concert as part of the 2016 Alumni Concert Series.
To Sophie Min, Tsoof Baras, Jordan Brodie, Anna Kho & Caleb Colledge, thanks so much for your beautiful playing – you really helped me achieve my vision and I’m so grateful that you were a part of the project. Can’t wait to do this again!
Here’s the links:
I’ll have the whole concert & each piece up on YouTube soon too, stay tuned!
No Enemy Within is the latest musical project from drummer/percussionist Lachlan Hawkins, and sees him moving away from the drum kit chair to explore the beautiful sounds of the handpan in collaboration with renowned Brisbane producer Steve Thornely.
With plans to release a CD later this year, this live album captures Lachlan’s recent handpan premiere concert at the Queensland Conservatorium as part of the 2016 Alumni Concert Series. The album invites listeners into Lachlan’s creative process, featuring both solo and small group original works for the handpan. All of the music is inspired by the concept of having ‘no enemy within’ – being at peace with yourself, quietening your mind and listening to the big-dreamer, creative voice inside – as well as messages inspired by family, gratitude and wellbeing. Lachlan was thrilled to be joined by fellow QCGU alumnus and close friends Tsoof Baras, Sophie Min & special guests Jordan Brodie, Caleb Colledge & Anna Kho for this performance in April 2016.
